On September 18, 1945, John McAfee was born in Cinderford, England, on a United States Army Base. His father is an American soldier stationed there at the base and his mother is British. John McAfee was raised in Salem, Virginia (United States). His father was an abusive alcoholic, and committed suicide by gun when John McAfee was 15 years old. John attended college at Roanoke College in Salem (Virginia), and graduated in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. From 1968 to 1970, John McAfee worked at NASA’s Institute for Space Studies that located in New York City. John was a programmer for the program. After leaving NASA, John worked as a software designer at Univac. Then, he worked at Xerox as an operating system architect. In the year of 1978, he made the transition to consulting once he joined the Computer Sciences Corporation as a software consultant. Later, from 1980 to 1982, John worked for the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton.
John McAfee began working on developing virus combating software, while he was working for Lockheed in the 1980s. Particularly, he began working on anti-virus software after getting a copy of the Brain computer virus. In the year of 1987, John McAfee left his job to start his own computer anti-virus company, McAfee Associates. In 1992, that company became incorporated in the state of Delaware. John remained with the company for two more years before he resign in 1994. Two years after McAfee associates went public, John got bored with the software business. Formerly, John McAfee resided in Orange Walk Town (Belize). John’s property was raided by the Belizean Police Department’s Gang Suppression Unit in April 2012. He was arrested by the police for unlicensed drug manufacturing and also for possession of an unlicensed weapon. However, later he was released without charge. In November 2012, the police of Belizean began investigating John McAfee as a person of interest relating to the murder of an expatriate. On November 11, 2012, Gregory Faull had been discovered dead in his home in Belize. Gregory died from a gunshot wound. He had been McAfee’s neighbor. It is why Belizean police were interested in investigating his connections to Gregory. John McAfee ended up leaving Belize once police sought him for questioning related to Gregory’s murder. He tried to seek asylum in Guatemala City, but on December 5, 2012, he was arrested for illegally entering Guatemala. While John was arrested, his asylum request was denied.
