Christy Martin is known to be the most successful and the most popular female boxer in the United States. She is also the one that legitimized women’s participation in the boxing. She started her career as a boxer in a contest named Toughwoman. Her debut was successful and she even won three consecutive titles. As her interest to boxing got bigger, she then started training with the boxing coach named Jim Martin, the same man who married her in 1991.

After turning 21, Christy Martin started her professional career in 1989 by having a six round draw match with Angela Buchanan. At the time, she was under the direction of Charlie Sensabaugh of Daniels West Virginia. A month after that, she claimed a victory in a rematch against Angela Buchanan with a second round knockout. Unfortunately, she was beaten by Andrea DeShong in a five round decision. Next, the boxer had nineteen consecutive wins and two of them were against Jamie Whitcomb and Suzanne Riccio-Major.
