Gates was interested in programming the GE computer in BASIC. On the computer, he wrote his first program namely a tic tac toe game. The game that he created was designed to be played against the computer.
Gates and his friends namely Paul Allen, Kent Evans and Ric Weiland were caught exploiting bugs in the operating system to get free time on the machine. Because of this problem, they were banned from using the computer of the school. But then, they created the Lakeside Programmers Club. This club was aimed to make money.
After their ban was done, then the boys offered to find bugs in the software in exchange for extra time on the computer. Gates started studying code for the programs that ran on the computer.
